The former NY Pizza location on Allen Street is getting a serious makeover. Not only will a new business be opening up inside, the owner of the building is removing the cheesy facade to bring back the original look of the building. That means that there will be plenty of glass and brick, which will make this corner shine once again. The building owner is also going to be partners in the new business, called Cornerstone on Allen.
The plan is to be part pizzeria and part bakery, selling pizzas and breads of all sorts. This will no longer be the late night drunken go-to… instead it will be more upscale, in tune with the advancements taking place at the Medical Campus. The owner’s son is bringing in a friend to run the pizzeria – a guy who has been operating a popular pizzeria in St. Bonaventure, NY for the last ten years. The baker who will be running the baking operation is yet to be announced, but from what I have heard it sounds promising.
This is excellent news for this corner location in Allentown. The street is primed for a bakery, and if the pizza is as good as they say it will be, then we’re looking at a welcome upgrade in pizza joints… and more than anything else, this building will be a draw in itself, rather than a 70s-looking mash-up of design influences.
