By Tivona Renoni, Communication Outreach Coordinator, GObike Buffalo:
If you like bikes, cinema, and all around good fun then listen up. GObike Buffalo and Campus WheelWorks are thrilled to announce the theme for the second annual Bike Pageant: Bike Pageant Goes to the Movies. In case you didn’t get the hint, this year’s theme is cinema and we’re calling all local artists and cyclist extraordinaires for submissions!
It goes like this: you pitch us an idea, if it stands out we’ll give you a bike and any mechanical help you might need. You transform the bike in any way you see fit: weld it, paint it, cover it with glitter, anything to make it fit your vision and the theme [see details below]. The bikes are then judged on the night of the pageant, which is Saturday, June 29th at Big Orbit Gallery. The participants will have their bikes on display to be judged and voted on by all of Buffalo before we auction them off. All proceeds go towards making the Queen City a more bicycle friendly place.
Submissions of ideas are due by the 9th (this Sunday) so don’t wait! See below for the nitty gritty details.
The nitty gritty:
Bike Guidelines
1) Bike must be a bike (i.e. functional)
2) Follow the theme as closely or as loosely as you’d like. This year’s theme is the Movies, any movie or movie genre.
3) GOBike provides bicycles and any mechanical help you may need, you do the rest
Submission Guidelines
1) Unlimited proposals, but only one entry per contestant will be chosen
2) Bike proposals must be submitted by no later than Sunday June 9th. Please email proposals to buffalobikepageant@gmail.com
3) Contestants will be notified via email by Monday June 10th, and can pick up their bicycles on the 11th or 13th of that week.
4) Completed bike submissions can be dropped off at Big Orbit Gallery June 25th.
5) Contest will be judged and prizes awarded on June 29th.
6) All finalist submissions will be auctioned off and proceeds will benefit GO Bike Buffalo.
