As if the Buffalo LGBTQ Pride Celebration event wasn’t fun enough, there’s an additional bash being incorporated into this year’s festivities. According to Buffalo co-promoter Holly Christiano, “Back Lot Bash (BLB) is the hottest, most rockin’ and most attended outdoor women’s festival that takes place every year in Chicago during Pride Week.” The event started back in 2004 as a day-long party. Today it’s a 4-day bash that has become a destination unto itself, attracting thousands of people from across the country.
Now the party is coming to Buffalo. I was surprised to hear that Chicago’s BLB was co-founded by a Western New Yorker by the name of Christina Wiesmore, and today it is one of the biggest lesbian event in the mid-west. Now Christina is taking the show to Buffalo, partially due to her ties to Buffalo and partially because of the growing success of Buffalo’s own Pride celebration. “It’s my home town,” said Christina. “It is near and dear to me and the community is beautiful and proud. Another reason, my family, friends and beautiful girlfriend live here!”
According to Back Lot Bash’s official press release, “We have a lot to celebrate in 2013. This year marks our 10-year anniversary in Chicago and our 1st Annual Back Lot Bash in Buffalo, NY. For 10 years, we have been honored to work closely with the LGBTQ community and we take huge pride in what we do as we gear up for the next 10 years of celebration, happiness, love, peace, equality and pride.”
