In the land of gardening, yes Buffalo, NY, there are plenty of high profile and obscure ways to get your gardening fix. For me, a walk down just about any city street, mid-summer, is the perfect way to explore the different garden varieties; each one an expression of the house that it belongs to. With so many different styles of architecture, Buffalo is loaded with an assortment of garden styles.
When it comes to fixing up your garden, there are all sorts of classes and workshops that take place at shops such as Urban Roots. In order to wrap your head around the big picture, sometimes one needs to pay a visit to a big show now and again. That’s where The 2013 Buffalo Home and Garden Show comes in. This year there are local and national experts aplenty, delivering words of wisdom and performing demonstrations as you stroll past the hundreds of exhibits in search of the garden charm that suits you best.
Besides all of the exhibitors, visitors can also expect a few celebrity guests including host of DIY Network’s “Man Caves” and “Desperate Landscapes,” Jason Cameron. Cameron will be discussing how to convert dreary basement spaces into coveted “man caves” while also giving gardening tips that will help to spruce up yard.
*Presentations will take place on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 at 1 and 4 pm each day.
Join local gardening pro Sally Cunningham and Buffalo DIY expert Cristin Frank who will be on-hand to give presentations on the art of upcycling and simple living. Look for her new DIY book at the show, called “Living Simple, Free & Happy: How to Simplify, Declutter Your Home, and Reduce Stress, Debt & Waste.”
A variation of the Antique Roadshow will be set up in the main lobby, where people will be able to bring their antiques (one per guest) to appraised for free by experts at Best Antiques. Friday from 12-4 pm and 6-8 pm and Saturday and Sundays between 1-4 pm.
There will be a Flower and Garden Market set up in the main lobby.
A Pet Fashion Show will take place on Saturday, March 16 at 2 pm.
Spring themed cooking demonstrations by chefs from Niagara County Community College’s Culinary Arts Department on March 9 and 10, at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Chef Randy, the Barefoot Ambassador, will be offering “Cooking with Wine” recipe advice on the second weekend, March 15-17.
