This is the first year the the United Way will be introducing a 24-hour online give-a-thon that is dedicated to supporting local charities. The premise behind the initiative is a simple one. On March 1, 2013, the United Way is asking that as many people as possible go online to give a monetary sum to the charity of their choosing. Similar initiatives have been extremely successful in other cities, simply by identifying one day of giving. The program is not intended to limit the amount of regular donations throughout the course of the year. Instead its aim is to drive up additional funds from those who don’t normally participate in donation drives, or get those who do donate to up the ante by a few bucks.
United Way is asking that people pass along this message, in order to draw attention to the donation drive on March 1. On that day, simply go to Fundraise.SpringItOn.org where you will find everything that you need in order to participate. More than 180 non-profit organizations throughout Erie and Niagara Counties have signed up to be beneficiaries of the give-a-thon. In order to increase the awareness, many of the non-profit organizations are calling upon their own members to participate, and are even setting their own goals for the day (the stats can be viewed here). The combination of joint marketing and increased community awareness is intended to open up the eyes of those who have the ability to make a difference.
