The world of photography can be full of wonder for those who have access to the right equipment and instructional techniques. Kids With Cameras: Through Their Eyes is a photography and journalism program that is currently being launched by XCEL Leadership Center (located at 567 Hertel Avenue).
The program is being geared towards under-resourced youths between the ages of 10 and 18 who are looking for the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of photography and journalism. In order to move forward with the initiative, XCEL Leadership Center has reached out to a number of established local photographers and writers who are willing to help educate the youth so that they will be able to document their views both visually and in writing. “We’re very excited to be able to offer Kids with Cameras this year,” Benjamin stated. “XCEL exists to educate, equip and empower. This initiative addresses all three objectives and provides yet another opportunity to further our mission and enrich the lives of deserving youth.”
Ultimately, the young participants will be able to explore the city’s cultural assets, attend a series of workshops and visit local art studios in order to participate in team building exercises while developing event planning and photo journalist skills. In the end, the students will have the ability to show their work and publish materials in a Grand Gala exhibit.
