Now that echo Art Fair has a couple of years under its belt, the event has shown that it’s capable of doing everything that it set out to accomplish. The fair has brought renowned artists to Buffalo, shown a light on some of Buffalo’s most accomplished artists, introduced locals to obscure venues, and has helped to put this city on the map for destination art shows.
This year the art fair is switching it up again, and has announced that on September 7 and 8 the event will be held at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library’s Central Library (BECPL), in downtown Buffalo, NY – not exactly an obscure venue, but one that should prove to pique visitors’ collective curiosity. echo Art Fair founder E. Frits Abell said, “We are extremely excited about producing this year’s echo Art Fair at the downtown Central Library, which continues to strengthen its ties to our cultural community as it becomes one of the region’s primary cultural hubs.”
In a relatively short period of time, echo has managed to attract a widespread artistic fan base, and plans on continuing to build that momentum. Last year the event in Larkinville attracted more than 10,000 visitors over three days, who came to see more than than 80 artists and galleries from WNY, the United States, and Canada. Mary Jean Jakubowski, Director of the Public Library System noted, “We are so pleased to open our doors to this major exposition and look forward to more partnerships of this nature.”
*Jurors participating in the selection process determining the artists and galleries presented at this year’s fair are: Tony Bannon, Executive Director, Burchfield Penney Art Center, Buffalo; Jax Deluca, Executive Director, Squeaky Wheel, Buffalo; Doug Dreishpoon, Chief Curator, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Roberta Joseph, Collector, Buffalo; Jonathan D. Katz, independent curator and Associate Professor of Visual Studies, University at Buffalo: and Maria Via, Director of Exhibitions, Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester. As in previous years, there will be a site-specific component wherein artists of all media will be selected to create interactive, temporary displays that respond to and engage the plaza and other public areas surrounding the Library. Artists and galleries are invited to submit their works for consideration starting March 4, 2013. Submission guidelines and additional details regarding the event, including sponsorship opportunities, are available at echoartfair.com.
