Celebration #28

Buffalo First! is in the business of raising awareness of the importance of “buying local”. On occasion, the organization hosts public fundraising parties in order to raise money for its own efforts as well as for other initiatives. This year is an important year for Buffalo First! because Buffalo is playing host to the 2013 Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) Business Conference. This is a big deal for the city in that the conference brings together progressive economic thinkers who understand the importance of creating “a stronger, more resilient, and fair economy” by organizing on a local level.
Over the years Buffalo First! has successfully introduced the idea that a “just, sustainable, and local living economy” is obtainable. If you think about the mission, and then consider the means to the end, supporting local business is about as easy as it gets, especially since Buffalo First! does all of the hard work for us. Thanks to the work of Buffalo First! we are able to quantify our buying power in order to understand the triple bottom line – people, planet and profit. By giving our local businesses a louder voice, the hope is that more people rethink their spending habits in order to strengthen their own neighborhoods. The more money that circulates in your city the better, resulting in more jobs and a stronger local economy.
*This year’s celebration will raise funds to scholarship one LGBTQ Buffalo business owner to the 2013 Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) Business Conference to be held in June of this year in the Queen City.
DJs Cutler, LoPro & Yama will ensure that a dance party ensues into the early hours. Local artist Max Collins will provide photographic proof of it all.
