Most tech conferences cost you or your boss money. Most tech conferences don’t have presenters show up in full Joker-in-The Dark Knight makeup. And most tech conferences have their presentations, their social opportunities, and their attendance list plotted out months in advance.
That’s not the case at BarCamp Buffalo, which is rebooting and launching today, Saturday (Feb. 2, 2013) at Medaille College. Everyone participates in some way in the presentations and learning, and everything is taught by people who attend. A BarCamp is a user-generated workshop, or “unconference,” and Buffalo’s event is shaping up to hit that target.
Sure, there will be talks and demonstrations on web development, mobile apps, databases, and the like. But there will likely be talks on credit card rewards, “The Ethics of Not Being You,” working downtown, and whatever else the attendees decide. If nothing else, Eric W’s “20 topics in 20 minutes” should keep the audience out of their laptops.
Breakfast, lunch, and beverages are provided free, and the first 100 to register for the event receive a free T-shirt. The all-day event will have strong Wi-Fi and multiple workshop tracks to navigate. It’s casual, engaging, and a great opportunity to meet new future-minded folks from Buffalo and nearby communities.
Even if you can’t make Saturday’s event, you can follow along at BarCampBuffalo’s Twitter feed and its Facebook page for real-time updates. Now for the event details:
