Mike A brings back the Power Lunch

There’s yet another good reason to head to the Hotel @ The Lafayette for lunch these days. Mike A @ The Lafayette is now open Wednesday through Friday from 11:30am to 2:30pm, and not only offers one of the nicest atmospheric daytime dining experiences in the city, it also offers some darn good food. Aside from the food, the restaurant is promoting that “The Bar is Open for your version of the Three Martini Lunch”… ouch!

Owner/Chef Mike Andrzejewski’s recipe for success this time is the introduction of a stripped down lunch menu that plays off of famous lunch offerings from around the world. For example, the Cobb Salad (The Brown Derby, Los Angeles) and the French Dip (Phillipe, The Original, L.A.) are both featured on the menu, with reference to the places that made the items great. Mike’s promoting it as a menu that “Features Classic Midday Meals from Famed American Restaurants”.  That means that you no longer have to travel to Perry’s Restaurant in Milford, CT. for a quality lobster roll.
While the menu is obviously quite meat heavy (what else would you expect from a steak house), there were a couple of offerings that I could try out, including the lobster roll (photo), which was much better than I expected considering I’ve only tried a lobster roll once in my life and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. This time there were no complaints! I was happy to find that the side of pickles and chips were made in-house… a very nice touch.

The custom variation of the three martini lunch (talk about a throwback to another era where this was not so unusual), is designed around serving up crafted cocktails, fine wines and a “diverse beverage selections through the day”. We know where that can lead to… happy hour at 2pm anyone? I’m sure that there are still some folks out there who are wondering what ever happened to the days when the martini lunch was common place. Well, here’s your chance to reminisce over a stylized side car.
It’s nice to see Mike A expanding his hours at the steak house. Hopefully one of these days, once the lunch business is in full swing, we might even see some weekend lunch hours. I’m sure that it’s only a matter of time.

Louie's Lunch (famous for their hamburger) is actually in New Haven, CT...not New Hampshire.

I wish you did kosher deli items. Corned beef, pastrami, Rubens there is no one in this region that can do this well.

I had the Cobb Salad for lunch last Friday - best Cobb salad I've ever eaten. It had some of the best tasting chicken I've ever had and the skinned cherry tomatoes really made me appreciate a restaurant using tomatoes in the dead of winter. Mike and crew do it very well. Since City Grill closed, there was a void for a high quality downtown lunch- Mike filled it with great food and reasonable prices- sit-down, fantastic lunch for under $15 with tip? Awesome! They will give Chris's NY Sandwich Co a run for their money, since I can never seem to get out of there for under $15.

Great news, because this is great news for downtown. Another place for clients to be entertained and visitors to grab a refined bite to eat.

Small FYI

Louis Lunch is in New Haven, CT for the burger...

Met up with Rocco for lunch and actually took the photo before he could get out of the picture... he had the French Dip (sans butter) and loved it.

This guy cant seem to miss.....So disappointing that Rocco cant do the AM&A's build out...I am guessing Mike A would of had an option for an eatery there as well...Just walked by the building today and what an eyesore...
