Instead of sending your kids out to buy run of the mill Hallmark cards this Valentine’s Day, why not do something more on the creative end? On Saturday, February 2nd from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., WNY Book Arts Center (WNYBAC) is hosting a kids’ event called “Letterpressed Valentines for Kids”.
The event gives young ones the ability to create their own “professional”-looking cards that they will be proud to give to loved ones. They will also see exactly what goes into making a card – the creative process that passes us by, mostly unnoticed these days. This is a chance for your children to understand the importance of the lost art of hand-printing, and the fun that can be had when doing it. At the event, WNYBAC’s instructor Chris Fritton will demonstrate the process and then teach the students, so that they can each create 25 hand-printed letterpressed Valentine’s Day cards that they can be proud of.
This is an ages 7 and up event and a parent must accompany children. Registration is $25.00 and $20.00 for Western New York Book Arts Center members. If you think about how much a Hallmark card is these days, that’s cheap! Not to mention the knowledge and wisdom that is gained. The Western New York Book Arts Center is located at 468 Washington Street and for more information, visit wnybookarts.org.
