Tomorrow is Buffalo 2013’s official winter festival in Delaware Park. In preparation for the festival I thought that I would sneak a slide show in from last year’s event to show you exactly what goes on at Flurrious! (along with a schedule of events).
Also this year, the festival welcomes Blue Cross/Blue Shield for the first time, as it incorporates a super kid-friendly aspect to the all-day event. It’s called the Snowman Making Challenge (lead photo), and from 11am to 2pm visitors to Flurrious! can register to build a snowman – builders will be given a slew of decorations that they can outfit their “snow-people” with. Judging for the contest takes place at 2pm and the winner will be contacted on Monday, January 28. It’s all part of Blue Cross/Blue Shield’s healthy living and family activity initiative.
If you plan on skating in the Open Skate, you must bring your own skates – the ice conditions are looking great! If you are looking to participate in a sport, and have not signed up for anything, that’s OK. You can still participate in Snow Beach Tennis, broomball, arcade midway games (for the kids), Kan-Jam and tug-o-war. There are plenty of spectator sports to watch as well, including the Ives Pond Invitational quidditch tournament and the Hockey Expo. Organized events include kickball, the Ice Man run, and the Fun (bike) Ride.
Bring a sled and pull your kids around from activity to activity. Take a sleigh ride. Warm up by the fire and check out some of the science demonstrations (for kids) in the Parkside Lodge, or listen to the live music in the heated beer tent (all ages welcome in the tent – wrist bands given to those over the age of 21). Welcome the Buffalo Nordic Ski Club and the Great Lakes Kite Fliers Society. See igloos being built and get kissed by an Eskimo!
See you at Flurrious! Delaware Park @ the Parkside Lodge – corner of Parkside near the 198 entrance.
