This Friday, December 7, Steak & Cake Records will be hosting its 2nd Annual Holiday Charity Fundraiser* at Duke’s Bohemian Grove Bar, 253 Allen Street. The event is designed to make sure that art programs not only get the proper awareness that they deserve, but get funded at the same time. Every initiative of this sort helps to pave the way for music programs in the public school system. “Everyone knows that the first thing to get chopped out of an education budget is the art programs,” said Brandon Schlia, President of Steak & Cake Records. “Thankfully, music still exists in schools but often times under less than optimal conditions. It’s our goal as a local record label to foster the community’s engagement with music and there’s no better way to ensure that relationship than by providing an opportunity for the youth to get to know it early on. Our cause, the “Let the Band Play On Campaign” raises money to replace deteriorating instruments in our city schools, in turn giving kids the chance to forge a bond with the classical instruments that have bolstered the creativity of humanity since the beginning of history.”
