The Brisbane building, constructed in 1895 and the home to notable tenants, has added some Washington Street curb appeal. An new awning was installed this week that compliments its neighboring building, the newly renovated Hotel @ The Lafayette.
The significant improvements to the Hotel @ The Lafayette has encouraged Brisbane’s owners, the Hunt family, to continue to invest in a revitalizing downtown. “The awning ties in that classic old world charm Buffalo once was well known for; we want our tenants and their customers to feel a new sense of welcome into the building and we think the awning will help make that happen.” said Heidi Nuessle, HUNT Commercial Real Estate leasing agent for the Brisbane Building.
As part of Brisbane’s continuous capital improvement efforts, the original Main Street façade was revealed in the Spring of 2010.
Between 2008 and 2010 there have been several inspiring and successful renovation efforts in the immediate Washington Street neighborhood. Jake Schneider transformed a former warehouse at the northwest corner of Ellicott and Eagle Streets into modern loft apartments. In April, 2010, Rocco Termini completed his renovation of the former AM&As warehouse at the northeast corner of Washington and Eagle into another well planned, and now fully leased loft apartment building. Termini closed on the purchase of the Lafayette Hotel at the southeast corner of Washington and Clinton in June, 2010 and has transformed it into modern apartments, a boutique hotel, and retail-restaurant space. The area around the Brisbane has again become a downtown Buffalo focal point.
