After receiving word that one of the original light fixtures had been secured via purchase from a Toronto antique dealer, the Central Terminal Restoration corporation has announce that the fixture will arrive to the terminal this Monday (see back story). This is most welcome news, and will be the perfect way to wrap up 2012 for the landmark, while welcoming in the New Year.
Volunteers picked up the picked up the fixture in Toronto from Navarro Gallery this past Thursday, December 20, 2012. From there it was brought back to Buffalo and has been on display at the Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle on Fillmore Avenue.
It was through the efforts of Broadway Fillmore Alive that the initial $3000 was raised to secure the fixture from the antique dealer who graciously lowered the price from its original $9000 price tag. Then, to sweeten the pot, gallery owner Robert Navarro ultimately donated the $3000 that was raised by the Buffalo community back to the Central Terminal. How’s that for a nice holiday story? The money will be earmarked towards the ”Adopt a Tile Program“.
Here’s a big “Thank You!” to Robert Navarro and his kind and unexpected gesture. The next time that you’re in Toronto, stop by and check out his gallery.
