It’s about time that someone started a food tour company in Buffalo. Organized food tours are great ways to get people to explore neighborhoods and commercial districts. Often times, people who are unfamiliar with a neighborhood will opt not to visit it for a number of reasons ranging from directions to fear of the unknown to parking issues. One of the reasons that malls are so successful is that there is ‘safety in numbers’ – some people just feel better when eating and shopping with others, not out on their own trying to figure things out for themselves. This is perfect for people who are new to Buffalo, or considering moving into the city… for singles, couples or groups of friends.
After taking a look at the Buffalo Bites website, I was struck with owner Laura Reed’s opening statement in the “About Us” section:
“After traveling to New York City with friends and partaking in Foods of New York’s Greenwich Village Tour, we were inspired to become Buffalo’s first food tasting and cultural walking tour company. Our passion and love of Buffalo inspires us each day to show tourists and locals what we love about this city. We know that great food makes for great experiences and special memories.”
Not only do guests on the tours get to learn about the different neighborhoods in Buffalo, they also get to sample foods along the way. A ticket for the tour includes food tastings and lunch. This is a great way to get outside, stretch the legs, meet people, learn about a city, and find all of the best food spots along the way – view calendar. Surely a food tour is something that would even appeal to a corporation looking to introduce employees to the city, while promoting a team bonding exercise along the way.
