What do you get when you cross a poetry reading, performance art, and a party that brings all the cool kids downtown? BIG NIGHT.
BIG NIGHT, quite simply, brings together the before, during, and after, creating a single event of multiple art forms–complete with an impressive menu by local chef and BlazeVox publisher, Geoffrey Gatza.
The brainchild of Just Buffalo Literary Center, BIG NIGHT features something for everyone: poetry for the word-nerd and bibliophile in all of us; visual art and video screenings for the art lovers; music, theatre, performance art… The mix is slightly different each time. The one constant is the venue: the increasingly popular DIY-printing-goes-hipster Western New York Book Arts Center or WNYBAC, corner of Washington & Mohawk.
Tomorrow night features Bay Area poet, Pamela Lu, whose most recent book, Ambient Parking Lot (Kenning Editions 2011) became the inspiration for the choice of music: Gutpole, a local sound collective comprised of Jim Abramson (drums), Scott Valkwitch (strings, electronics), and Patrick Cain (saxophone, vocals, electronics). BIG NIGHT will also feature performance art by Kyle Butler and poetry by Noah Falck, the newest addition to Just Buffalo’s team. A Pushcart-prize nominated poet from Dayton, Ohio, Falck is Just Buffalo’s new Education Director.
Come–make a night of it!
