Which truck should Chris choose? | Buffalo Rising

Which truck should Chris choose?

Chef Chris Silverstein, owner of the Lagniappes French Quarter Cafe on Allen Street is looking to get into the food truck business. I spoke to Chris yesterday about his decision to get his restaurant on the road, and he told me that the ability to create a four wheel enterprise is just too tempting. He also alluded that he was looking at two completely different scenarios that he would like to roll out. Intrigued, I asked him to send along images that would represent the two directions that he was looking to go.
When Chris showed me the two different trucks that he was eyeing, I immediately got excited about the prospects of either one of them becoming a reality. “I have a permanent location for the truck during Spring, Summer and early Fall,” Chris said. “With operating hours of 9am to 10pm…. and then she will be roaming in the colder months. The way I look at it, if you’re going to do something it’s got to be different and unique… you have got to stand out from the others. I would love to get Buffalo Rising readers involved with voting on the truck that they would like to see.”
Along with funds that Chris has already raised, he has also launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to expedite the financial undertaking. The suggestion to go the Kickstarter route came from encouragement from his customers – and those are the people who will ultimately benefit from having a completely different food truck out on the road, and positioned in a place (yet to be announced) that could really use some good food.
So which truck would you like to see out on the road?

That first month was hard..lol... but in the end we are still here! and they abandoned Allen St for bigger profits! We love Allen and will not leave you guys!

I am sure the state would not like that idea..But I do!

I also recall Jim's Steak Out hiring a lawyer not me, so before you accuse me off being the biggest opponent on Allen St you should check your facts.

As a lawyer I would think you would have a little common sense and some sort of fact checking ability. Once again you have my phone number please use it, I cant seem to find yours anywhere?

I called and emailed every party involved in this misunderstanding and no one called me back. What more could I have done.I have been on Allen st. for six years, I have publicly welcomed and wished good luck to every new business who has come to the neighborhood. I have never feared competition, this is business.I guess it is just easier to pick on the little guy.

There were three restaurants and a pork truck on the corner where the taco truck set up.

I am on the other end of the street.I would really love to know why I got blamed for any of this.

As I recall they were not told to leave, they were told to move to a legal parking spot. A lot of people on the street saw the pork truck lady freaking out on that corner and the two trucks were yelling back a forth at each other for 10 min. Seems to me the pork truck lady had the most to lose.

And I have already told my story about the pork truck..They had no license!Play fair

this is a flat out lie. You should check all you facts first. feel free to call me anytime and get the truth. Its easy to hear one side of a story but its wrong to not check the other side first.

thanks for all the votes so far. The trucks are not finished yet. The one we pick will be decked out and decorated nicely.

My guests and friends have been very supportive but we have a long way to go and only 39 days to get there. Any support would be greatly appreciated! and keep the votes coming!

Thumbs up on both. However, the color of the double-decker perhaps could be a little more perky??? vibrant??? decorated??? . . .

I'd prefer the looks of the "trolley", but the idea of sitting upstairs sounds more fun. BUT : I wonder if on-vehicle seating would change the 'food truck' into a 'rolling restaurant', subject to different rules & more objections from the brick-and-mortar foodsters. hmm...

If the semi-permanent place for the truck has a "great view," the double decker bus with second level seating is a no-brainer.

Haha I remember their employees barking about Whole Hog nearly knocking them out of business.

If you can't beat em, join em - right?

More food for us!

Double Decker, hands down. Better visibility, better signage space, built in open air seating, unique for our area. Good luck!!

The green trolley screams 'N'awlins' so it goes well with the Creole/Cajun food you serve but ultimately go with whatever works for you: to put a small kitchen in, cost/maintenance cost, etc. Good luck and hope to see one of these rollin' around Buffalo whenever I come back for a visit!

Rubber wheeled trolleys are frankly embarassing.

Chris you can't deny you were the biggest opponent to food trucks on Allen. It's all about karma my friend. You want to discuss a truck and joining the WNYFTA you can call me anytime, but everyone knows how much of a stink you put up about the trucks.

Wonder if the state would grant a liquor license if drinks are consumed while on the bus. Would help the profit margins... (the double decker... Drinks on the deck!

Hello guys thanks for your votes! I really cant make up my mind on this I love them both.

I have to reply to Allentwnguy..I think he and I have had this conversation before but once again...I have never had any issues with legal food trucks..I raised the money to open my first location with hot dog carts. I love street food.

My problem was with unlicensed and illegal food trucks. (I only know of one) I need to have many permits and licenses to be open, everyone does. We all need to follow the rules even if we dont like them.

I guess its easier to blame me then admit the truth. The problems with the Pork truck started at City Hall department of Licensees, not me. anyone can call them directly and simply ask if they have permits to operate in the city. as of 6 months ago they only had a stationary peddlers permit, this means they can only operate in one location with no roaming. For the first 6 months they were open they had no permit to operate at all.

Not sure what else to say about this please feel free to call me and we can discuss it more if you like.

Hear, hear.

How busy is his place, anyway? Most times I walk by there isn't much activity. Not to mention there are no hours posted anywhere on the front of the building. Isn't that running a business 101? Or is that out the window with iPhones and facebook?

If customers could eat on the second floor of the double decker, then he should choose that one....

If he doesnt, someone should buy this and make it a permanent hot dog resturant for the inner harbor...I would rather buy a hot dog from this and sit on the second floor instead of the shit hole we call Clintons dish...

tough call. the trolley would be distinctive, but seating on the upper level of the double-decker won me over.

I would have to say the green trolly car. I feel it could potential have a real New Orleans/Louisiana vibe to it.

Double decker. You can have dining on the upper level. Those fake trolly buses are stupid looking

Both are pretty unique but I feel that the green one for some reason just screams creole/Lagniappes to me. Either one would be great, and I'm happy to hear of another food truck business!!! =D

I like the red one if you can convert the second level into a small seating area. That be pretty nice for the warmer months.
