Salsa, merengue, cumbia, bomba, bachata, samba and flamenco… these are a few of the dance styles that MarCe Zerrate, Founder of Amor and Heritage Traditional Dance Company, will be promoting at future events in Buffalo.
In order to fund the new dance company MarCe is planning a multicultural food event at Ashker’s Juice Bar Bistro and Gallery on November 3 at 6pm. “I recently started a dance Company with two of my dancer friends Jessenia Gonzalez and Betzy Medina,” MarCe told me. “It’s called Amor and Heritage Traditional Dance Company, with the purpose of increasing self-esteem, education on multiculturalism and diversity in our area. We, the instructors, have been performing as volunteers all over the city in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month; we are the only adult group that dances world and traditional dance styles in Buffalo. I want to be able to offer free shows for the community to showcase the different outfits/costumes, rhythms and dance styles from the wide diverse amazing world we live in. We also want to provide this education to low income families who otherwise could have never have this opportunity.
The price for the event is $35 and includes a three-course meal, live music, singing and traditional dancing. In keeping with the traditional nature of the dinner, the cuisine will be Colombian and Puerto Rican, cooked by Native chefs.
