Sometimes, the best way to feel good about your community is to actually go out and get your hands dirty by planting a tree. Being able to see the fruits of your labor right away, and years down the road is something truly special. In a city that was once known as ‘The City of Trees’, we have been tirelessly working towards regaining that image. A number of years ago we were battered by the October storm, and this past summer we suffered at the hands of harsh drought conditions. These types of weather-related incidents wreak havoc on out tree inventory, and that’s why organized tree plantings are so important when it comes to urban reforestation.
On Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 9:00am until 12:00pm, Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy will be planting 150 trees in Delaware Park, and they need your help. On that day the conservancy is also hosting a Tool Drive. If you have a new or gently used tool that you can spare (permanently), the park system is constantly in need of heavy duty metal leaf rakes, trowels, weeders, spade shovels and anything else that will help them to dig and plant their way towards making the Buffalo Olmsted Park System the best in the country.
Volunteers can also assist in maintaining flower beds, raking leaves and picking up litter.
*For those looking to volunteer pre-registration is required. Please email volunteer@bfloparks.org or call 716.838.1249 ext 15.
