You can walk most blocks in the City, and quickly stumble upon a watering hole to enjoy a drink or two. But can you stroll in any old bar, and become the subject of a painting? Well, this Saturday night you can!
MJ Myers is a local artist who has had traditional art shows around Buffalo for a few years. But, after meeting the owner of the relatively new MIXology bar, he had an idea to put a fun spin on what can sometimes be a mundane night out…
Starting at 7:00pm, Myers will be doing a “live” oil painting of the immediate atmosphere. This will be a fun and interactive event for both artist and patrons. Since 2006, his typical method has always been to discreetly observe people in bars. “Usually, I’m the creepy guy with a sketchpad in the corner… but now I’ll be the creepy guy behind the easel!” Meyers jokingly said.
Often times, the artist’s interpretation is what greets our eyes. This is a rare chance to see how that initial encounter can actually lead the painting, and create instant results. Some of Myers’s finished pieces, and the “live” painting will be available for purchase at the end of the night. You just might recognize the people looking back at you!
Regardless if you’re into art or into spirits, come, relax, and experience the fine blend of culture and revelry happening at MIXology.
