In case you haven’t heard, Trader Joe’s is coming to Kenmore in 2013. Or that’s what WKBW claimed earlier today. And then The Buffalo News picked up the story and reported the same thing.
But a Trader Joe’s spokesperson told WGRZ that “At this time Kenmore is not in Trader Joe’s two-year plan.”
So now every media outlet has reversed course. Trader Joe’s is not coming to Kenmore. But, it appears, Trader Joe’s is coming to Western New York – just not Kenmore.
See, this all started with a press release from the Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS). Here’s what KVIS announced:
The Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS) is pleased to announce that their Trader Joe’s for
Western New York campaign has ended with success, as Trader Joe’s plans to open a store in WNY in
the fourth quarter of 2013.
The KVIS spear-headed efforts to bring the popular grocery store chain, known across the country for
its unique food and beverage items, to the area with a campaign featuring a mascot called Kenmore
Joe, letter writing as well a social media initiatives.
“We’re thrilled to have played a role in attracting Trader Joe’s to the area, says Melissa Foster,
President of KVIS. “Most private corporations do not choose to credit community groups with
encouraging them to consider opening in their community, but the KVIS is confident that our campaign
helped to encourage enthusiastic dialogue and awareness of the store.”
Now, the fact that the Kenmore Village Improvement Society announced Trader Joe’s was coming would certainly lead one to believe that Trader Joe’s was coming to. . . Kenmore. But that’s not the case.
Instead, sources have indicated that Trader Joe’s is coming to some other location in Western New York within the next 24 months. Also, it’s worth noting that Trader Joe’s will be opening a store in Rochester later this year.
