Hertel Avenue is landing another quality Elmwood destination. The Village Beer Merchant is a mere days away from opening its second location in the city, this one at the corner of Hertel and Wellington Road. There’s a lot more than just one big win that we’re looking at here – not only is The Village Beer Merchant moving to Hertel, it’s taking over a former law office. If there’s one thing that Buffalo’s commercial districts need, it’s more available storefronts for restaurants and retailers that attract the general public. Businesses such as doctor’s offices, tax offices, attorneys, etc. that don’t get walking traffic basically take up valuable space – especially at corners such as this. As business density begins to limit available storefronts, these types of transitions are good to see. The Village Beer Merchant will do wonders at bringing this corner back to life.
As for operations at the new Village Beer Merchant, we can expect to see a carbon copy of what is already so successful on Elmwood, right down to the color scheme. It was back in 2007 when we first learned that The Village Beer Merchant was opening (see here). Now Hertel is getting its share of taps and growlers, along with bottled craft beers and munchies. The business has had four years to perfect its routine, and now North Buffalo residents will be the benefactors. This is another big score for Hertel, along with the recent opening of Globe Market on the street.
