Buffalo’s staple Belgian spot has gone British… at least on Tuesdays. Two weeks ago Blue Monk introduced ‘British (K)nights’ and the theme is set to recur every Tuesday from now on. What does this mean? Don’t worry, the famous (and dangerously good) Duck Frites aren’t going anywhere. The normal menu will still be available, as will the extensive list of beers on tap. In addition, British Knights will feature a selection of English bottled beers, British pub-style cuisine and music. The special menu features a meat pie from Buffalo’s English Pork Pie Company, along with several other British favorites including Toad in the Hole (an English sausage in Yorkshire pudding) and Bangers and Squeak (another sausage dish with vegetables).
Owner Mike Shatzel was inspired to start British Knights after a recent trip to England, during which time he realized that Buffalo didn’t have much to offer in the area of English-style pubs. The theme seems to be a natural fit for the gastropub atmosphere, which doesn’t seem to change too drastically. The vibe is generally the same, plus some great specials, different beers and bloody good music. The specials are available every Tuesday from 3pm to close.
Some other events at Blue Monk to keep an eye out for are Oktoberfest, a Sam Adams Utopia Tasting and the Pumpkin Beer Festival.
