Moments ago, GooGoo Dolls’ bass guitar player Robby Takac announced the ten year anniversary of the Music is Art (MiA) festival, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday September 15, 2012. While last year certainly elevated the overall dynamics of the festival by spreading out into Delaware Park, this year will see both Delaware Park and The Albright-Knox venues utilized. That means that the road between the two sites will be closed to traffic and the festival will grow by a whopping 25%. “I wanted to limit MiA to ten stages,” Robby told me. “But I just couldn’t fit everything in… so there will be eleven stages this year, and one of them will be dedicated to spoken word.”
During the press conference, Robby lit a large sparkler on top of the 10th Anniversary MiA cake, which was made by Zillycakes. The official poster (designed by Don Keller) was also unveiled. The 10th year marks a major milestone for a music festival that was surrounded by controversy from the start, and struggled for years to find a welcoming home. Now, thanks to the Olmsted Parks Conservancy and The Albright-Knox, MiA has two homes and room to grow. This year there will be over 100 bands, 100 artists, dancers, DJ stages, a kids village, performance art, projections, food and beer… the whole enchilada.
