By Rebecca Boone:
The sweltering heat of this past week is predicted to stop just in time for the weekend, and of course sunshine and a breeze is the ideal weather to enjoy the waterfront. If you’re up for trying something new down by the water you should stop by the harbor tomorrow for some swing dancing. Having recently tried my hand, or foot, at swing dancing I can say it’s quite easy to pick up as your body just swings naturally to the music.
The dancing will take place from 1-2pm today (Saturday June 23) in the shade by the Central Wharf and is the first official outdoor dance hosted by Swing Buffalo, a non-profit organization that has brought swing to the Queen City since 2007. The music will be provided and you don’t have to come with a partner so you just need to bring yourself! And ladies, no heels are necessary either – you can dance in your summer shoes. You can come down to the harbor early or stay after the event to enjoy the work of local artists at the Saturday Artisan Market (Facebook), which is taking place from 10am-5pm rain or shine.
