Usually these types of markets take place outside in public parks and abandoned lots. Considering that that would not be very conducive this time of year, the market will be held indoors. And who doesn’t have something to give? It’s not all about giving though – while giving is a big part of the event, you are also encouraged to take items that appeal to you. “Take something, give something and enjoy!,” Shea told me. “The intention of a Free Market is to reduce waste, spread wealth amongst the community and to provide for everyone. The Really, Really Free (small item) Market is an ongoing trend in Buffalo, and with this indoor market, we’ve extended the season. Anyone can take things, whether you bring something or not. They’re a lot of fun, and full of friendly people and cool finds. All are welcome.”
On March 3, local activist Shea Akers and friends are hosting a special Really, Really Free Market at Westminster Presbyterian Church. What makes this event so special is the time of year that it is taking place and the historic church where it will reside. If you’re not familiar with the ‘really, really free’ concept then you’re in for a surprise. All you need to do to participate and enjoy the experience is to show up with something… anything that that you think someone might enjoy and you have no use for anymore. In fact, you don’t ‘really’ need to show up with anything, but it would be nice if you did.
Bring something cool. Bring something practical. Bring something fun.

Take something, Give something & Enjoy! Bring a blanket (if you can) to spread out your items. Small items only, please! No money exchanged. All unclaimed items will be donated to a local nonprofit. You’re welcome to come and/or go empty-handed, but COME! This market would be a no trade, no barter, no money market, with all extras being donated to the Goodwill.
