If you’re not out on the slopes today, and you’re kickin’ around downtown… maybe heading to Rotary Rink to skate, or your finishing up a Sunday brunch. Whatever the case, the downtown Central Library is hosting a U.S. Chess Federation-sanctioned tournament today that is being sponsored by the Archangel 8 Chess Academy (FB). Yes, Buffalo has a chess academy and the the game/sport is alive and well with all age players feverishly competing for a chance to to go head to head with the area’s best and the brightest.
Today you may only be able to watch, unless you preregistered, but in the future if you are looking to compete, there are other dates set:

Sunday, March 25
Sunday, April 29
Games are all-ages and are played between 12pm-4:30pm
Advance registrations are encouraged by the day before each date — please provide player full name, phone number, grade, school, and USCF number (if applicable) to arcangel8chess@yahoo.com. USCF rules will be enforced. USCF members should bring a chess set and board plus digital chess clock. A limited number of chess sets are available with advance notice when you register.
