Looking for something to do next Friday night? PeopleArt Coffeehouse just released its new music lineup for January and February, and it starts on Friday, January 20th at 9pm. If you haven’t heard of PeopleArt, they are a coffeehouse and live music venue located in the basement of the Unity Church at 1243 Delaware Avenue. Local musicians in the lineup include RoJo, Grace Stumberg, Bob Farmer, Tom Stahl, and Gaia Miranda.
Every Friday night at 9, for just $5, PeopleArt hosts a two hour performance by a featured local musician performing his or her own original material. The Coffeehouse was founded in 1978 by Bob Stalder and local musician Mike Meldrum. Now, in 2012, PeopleArt continues to feature both established and new performers 40 times a year. Because it shuts down around the holidays, performances are just beginning to start up again for the new year.
The setting is chill, according to frequent visitors, and most artists play an acoustic set, which adds to the comfortable mood. Coffee, pastries, and other refreshments are sold as well. This revenue plus the cost of admission pays for the space, and anything left over goes to the musicians. On average, the performances draw in a crowd of about 15-20, but sometimes the number approaches 50 attendees.
Whatever the number, the crowd is always appreciative and encouraging, which creates the perfect atmosphere for budding local artists to play original material.
So if you’re looking for some live music by local talent and a comfortable, social atmosphere, PeopleArt Coffeehouse is the place for you. If you are a local musician with original songs and want to perform, call 716-878-4041 or check out their Facebook page.
