Buffalo, as we all know, struggles with a relatively poor national image. If you play word association with outsiders and say “Buffalo,” you’ll generally hear “snow” and/or “chicken wings.” That’s it.
Of course, the City has been getting more positive press of late so we’re starting to chip away at the uninformed stereotype of our home town. Of course, the Convention & Visitors Bureau has created a number of videos with the goal of helping change Buffalo’s national image including Buffalo: This Place Matters and Buffalo: For Real. Both are sentimental pieces that emphasize the architecture and community of Buffalo.
But there is another way of helping tear down poorly informed stereotypes: swagger.
When you think of Iowa, you probably think of corn, hillbillies, farmers and strange, generally unelectable Republican candidates emerging from caucuses. Well, not surprisingly, that’s not an accurate picture of the state. Native Iowan Scott Siepker set out to change that impression. And he nailed it.
Surely Buffalo could benefit from this type of swagger-filled educational monologue.
As a warning, there is some off-color language used in this video.
