By Jamie Nash:
Everybody around here knows Chippewa, and what you can expect to see when you head out there for the night. Justin Anderson aims to bring something new to that perception with Tap House, which will replace the old Jack Devine’s at 85 W. Chippewa by catering to those looking for a more relaxed evening–without fist-pumping and rave music. With the restaurant opening sometime in February, and the bar soon after in March, Tap House will be host to a reasonably priced light food menu, an ensemble of 25-plus North American brews, live music and events.
“We will be the only bar on Chippewa with that many beers on tap,” Anderson said. But Tap House will serve more than beer. There will be a local food menu and live music to go with your favorite brew.
Tap House will also have a patio, projected to open in late spring, which will hold over 200 people and serve 10 additional brews. The patio will be the site for music and events, as Anderson plans to have a “Barbeque and Blues Night” once a week in the summer. And, as for the barbeque portion of this event, a custom smoker will be built to cook ribs, sausage, and pulled pork, to name a few.
If your mouth isn’t watering yet, a clam shack will also be built onto the back of the bar to accommodate Anderson’s plans for a Boston Hotel-esque clam night once a week. Seafood fans can expect low prices as well, with a dozen clams going for about $3 and a dozen crab legs at about $5. Anderson said he’s aiming to bring a little of Boston Hotel to the city, so Buffalonians don’t have to travel out of their way to get good seafood at low prices.
So if the club atmosphere doesn’t work for you, but you still want a fun, entertaining night out on Chippewa, Tap House might just become your new favorite destination.
