Tonight, Wednesday October 19th is the 4th Annual Biketoberfest at Essex Street Pub from 6-8pm. Yes; it’s that time of year where we put together a rolling party for all our friends. Since it’s our 4th annual, we did some reflecting and it appears that the number 4 has some serious significance!
It was 4 years ago that we at Green Options Buffalo and community supporters sat down with Tim Herzog at Flying Bison Brewery to come up with a fundraising campaign to install bicycle racks throughput the city. Not much longer after that, Rusty Chain was born out of an initial 40-barrel batch and available at 14 local restaurants on tap. We then held our first party to much success and raised enough money to begin the installation of bicycle racks and create our commercial district bicycle-parking program in partnership with the City of Buffalo. 4 fateful years later and many Rusty Chain’s consumed…. Buffalo now has over 400 bicycle racks lining our city streets.
With the recent announcement about Sharrows, this year has seen 4 roads acquire bicycle markings! These include Seneca Street, South Park Avenue, Connecticut Street and the soon to be completed Porter Avenue. In addition, Richmond Avenue’s bicycle lane was connected through Colonial Circle to Richmond. The 4’s keep rolling through…from our workshop, giveaways and youth programs over 400 bicycles have been recycled. Lastly, don’t forget to become a member… were not at 400 yet but there are over 40 businesses that have signed onto Bicycle Benefits to give you a discount for simply riding your bike.
So bring 4 of your friends and come join us tonight Wednesday, October 19th from 6-8pm at Essex Street Pub for Green Options Buffalo’s 4th Annual Biketoberfest sponsored by Flying Bison Brewery, Essex Street Pub, Nickel City Graphics and the Zenger Group.
There will be a FREE bicycle valet. $20 admission or $10 if you ride your bicycle – just bring your valet ticket to the door.
Rusty Chain will be on tap, live music by DJ Cutler, and German cuisine by Essex Street Pub.
