Along with a heavy weekend event line-up including the Elmwood art festival, a rowing regatta, Buffalo Place Rocks The Harbor, the Irish Festival (at The Statler), a zombie walk for charity (at Club W), the Buffalo Really-Really Free Market (at Bidwell), Buffalo Funk Fest at LaSalle Park, the Bidwell Indie 5000 and numerous other events and activities, there is a spectacular event taking place in the parking lot at New Era…all day today and into the night (starting at 2pm). Verve Dance Studio and New Era are breaking out the inaugural B-boy (and B-girl) hip hop dance festival, an event that promises to be action packed, art oriented and family friendly. For five years Verve Dance Studio has been throwing the Battle @ Buffalo urban dance competition, and this year they’re literally taking it to the streets as 32 B-boy crews go head to head in a two-on-two, all styles, all day break dancing competition.
This event has been five years in the making. The last Saturday of every month, 250 hip hop enthusiasts gather at Verve Dance Studio located on Main Street. That ongoing success has led organizers to team up with New Era – a Buffalo company that understands and promotes urban culture and style. Along with dancing, there will be an interactive artists’ tent that will allow everyone to get in on the action. Today’s outdoor and unprecedented Battle @ Buffalo (Under the Lights) will be filled with moves, music and whole lot of locking, popping, ticking, tutting, bugaloo, jerking and crumping… the likes that you have never seen before.
