The chicken won’t cross the road this Saturday. Nope, she’ll stay put at 318 Normal Avenue, to help celebrate the Buffalo Barn Raisers Party and Fundraiser. The farm-themed event is being thrown as kind of a slap on the back, 7-month birthday, go us! event for the group.
“[The party is] a chance for all of the wonderful people who have contributed their time and energy, and those interested in doing so in the future, to come together and have fun!,” wrote Barn Raiser Anna Miller in an email.
The Buffalo Barn Raisers (see back story) is a community group built by people who get together to do stuff – or learn stuff or share stuff. All events are hosted, planned, and executed independently, with anyone allowed to post events on their websites. Activities range from ultimate Frisbee to yoga to frack action meetings to writing workshops.
“The best part is that when you go to these events you’re attending skill shares or workshops for things that pique your interests, so when you get there you’re surrounded by people — whether it’s 2 people or 20 — who you have that in common with,” said Miller. “Everyone’s just trying to grow themselves and better our community.”
Saturday’s potluck style event, like all Barn Raiser events, is free and open to anyone with a interest, although a $5 donation is suggested. (It is a fundraiser, after all). Money raised will help cover basic costs for the Barn Raiser community, such as printing and copying monthly calendars, and keeping the website up and running.
Anyone interested is invited to pull on their overalls and bring a dish to pass, an instrument, or just themselves to join the fun!
The event is Saturday, July 30 at 5 pm, located at 318 Normal Avenue.
