When I first saw that Modern Nostalgia was opening a boutique on Hertel Avenue, I immediately though about their location in Allentown. The clothing and accessory shop has added so much to Allen Street (see post) that the absence would have been quite noticeable. On the flip side, Hertel will soon be home to one of the more unique, hip women’s clothing stores in the city. With lines like Pur denim, Adriano Goldschmeid, Dolce Vita Clothing, Gentle Fawn, Lucca Couture and Gerard Yosca jewelry, the clothing consists of ‘modern looks that evoke a sense of nostalgia for the classics of a bygone era’.
After stopping into the Allentown location I spoke with the owners, Nikki Polasik and Brianne Klejdys-Long, who assured me that the Hertel shop would be their second location. They did contemplate closing the shop on Allen, but after hearing from their customers that they would not make the trip to Hertel as often as they would like, the decision to keep both businesses open was made. The girls are even considering outfitting their original shop with some men’s clothes.
The big benefit of opening on Hertel will be the ability to share a large space adjoining ‘baby room’. The owners of ‘room’ are in the midst of adding a second store to the street specializing in decor for babies’ rooms, along with accessories, bath, bedding, blankets, furniture and toys.
