June 6th starts the 14th season of the ever-popular Sunday in the Cemetery tours at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
New on this year’s tours is the viewing of The Shepherdess, created by Mary DeWitt Smith, a Gratitude Garden near the mausoleums and tributes to Albert J. Myer and Ebenezer Walden (which include carvings of the duo from the Carvings for a Cause project).
Forest Lawn is a place where citizens come to relax, exercise, investigate and celebrate life. A tour will successfully take you and yours on an entertaining and history-filled journey throughout the cemetery, while introducing them to many of the noble citizens buried there. Many of our “permanent residents” sometimes stop and say “Hello” to visitors.
Forest Lawn has become an enduring chronicle of local history and a cultural landmark to local accomplishment. It is truly worthy of having both New York State and National Register of Historic Places designation.
Tours include motor coach and walking history tours and specialty tours about the Civil War and notable African American citizens of Buffalo.
So next time you drive by those impressive gates of Forest Lawn, feel free to stop by and check it out…. or take one of the many tours offered this summer on Sundays. Discover this permanent outdoor museum that is a Buffalo treasure.
For tour dates and times go to the Forest Lawn website.
