There’s nothing like a visit to a sunshiny ice cream joint to liven a summer day. But Grumpy’s Premium Ice Cream Stand and Charcoal Grill is more than just a place to get a cone. Located at 1900 Hertel Avenue, Grumpy’s is staffed with the most chipper people. It’s a new build (highlighted on BR last year in its construction phase) and has plenty of seating suited to accommodate family-sized parties or folks on a quick break from work. The patio features umbrella-shaded tables which help prevent sun-warmed super drippy cones. There’s even more picnic table seating to the left of the building fit for larger groups. The patio is comfortable and gives guests the feeling of sitting on an over-sized front porch.
Grumpy’s boasts a large selection in the frozen sweet treat area from thirty-three flavors of Hershey’s ice cream to old school floats, sodas, and milkshakes. I sampled the new Moose Tracks, which has been revamped with chocolate ice cream and peanut butter cups, and then my old standby, the chocolate vanilla twist custard. It’s a thick, rich custard so creamy it stays cold until the end.
Since I’m a dessert first kind of girl, I never did get to the charcoal grill side of things, but Grumpy’s also offers a variety of combo meals involving all of those favorite summertime picnic foods like hot dogs, hamburgers and fried bologna–which would be my first pick. All seem reasonably priced and smelled inviting.
Plenty of seating and an amusement park atmosphere make this fresh Hertel ice cream stand a good pick in North Buffalo.
