With tableaus as stunning and detailed as the one above, it is easy to define Art Alive as art itself. The annual event, held by Albright-Knox Art Gallery, features volunteer “artists” ranging in age from pre-kindergarten through senior citizen, modeling – through form, art supplies and ingenuity -one of the gallery’s featured works. What is almost always a steamy summer day is certainly one of the most enjoyable events of the season. The level of creativity displayed each year is increasingly inspiring, and with Buffalo’s lack of buskers, street artists, murals and commissioned public sculpture, it is a refreshing reminder of just how much our community loves and appreciates non-traditional celebrations of both great artists and our own local talent.
This Saturday you can catch the event, held on the back steps of our much-loved Albright-Knox. If the weather is nice, sun screen is recommended for the little ones and adults alike, as shade is at a premium. You’ll want to stay long enough to make sure that you thoroughly observe each entry before casting your own votes in the multiple categories available. Below we’ve included a slide show of images from the last couple of years.
