Preservation Buffalo Niagara (PBN) has issued a call for nominations, seeking exemplary historic preservation projects from throughout its seven county region. The Buffalo Preservation Board is also starting its effort to select 2010 awards. Nominations must be submitted by February 5, 2010. Eligible counties are Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming and Niagara.
Projects are being sought that illustrate excellence in restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, stewardship, landscape preservation, and compatible new construction. Individuals and organizations with outstanding preservation achievements can also be nominated, including craftsmen, preservation leaders, neighborhood organizations, preservation organizations, and those fostering historic preservation through service, education or outreach.
The 2010 Preservation Awards will be announced at a luncheon in May, which is Historic Preservation Month. While a date has not been finalized, the guest speaker will be Carol Ash, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Last year, the 2009 Preservation Awards Luncheon honored 16 award recipients from Erie and Niagara Counties and brought together 350 preservationist, craftsmen, community activists and project supporters from throughout Western New York.
