Plans for the Buffalo Powder Keg Festival are well underway. We’ve had
an incredible response so far and the emails keep coming in. One
question that keeps coming up over and over is, “What record are you
going to try to set?” After looking at a few of the snow-related
records out there, I’m pretty sure that I’m ready to discount any
record setting…
Michigan Technological University has the record for 3,700 students entering into a snowball fight. North Dakota has
the record for 8,962 snow angels. And a town in Maine has built the
largest snowman at 122 feet.
Those are formidable numbers. So if you have any suggestions (I can’t wait for some of the answers)
for entering into a serious record attempt, please let me know. Other than that, we are
building a solid team of festival participants including the Roaming
Buffaloes Outdoor Adventure Club, The Buffalo B-Team, Queen City Roller
Girls’ travel team – the Lake Effect Furies, Uncle Sam’s Army Navy
Outfitters squad has offered to head up the toboggan run, James is going to
convert his Ice Creamcycles into pretzel carts, Frank Grillo is
organizing a snow bike race, we have people heading up a chili
cook-off, hot cider stands, Buffalo Barn Boards has offered to build
giant teeter totters for the kids, and the list goes on.
We need people to: build igloos (college or university?), a snow maze, ice carvings… if you belong to a fraternity or sorority and want to get involved, please let me know. If you’re in high school, get your fellow students involved with some of the activities – we need a lot of snowmen. Thanks to all of the suggestions we’re looking into snow volleyball, an ice bar, a relay event, photo contest. We would love to have some fun prizes too! Our first big meeting should be coming up next week, so if you sent me an email get ready. If you want to get on-board send an email to Newell@BuffaloRising.com.
Of course this will all be taking place in conjunction with another big event held on February 27th and 28th. Click here for more festival details.
