Thursday, October 1st
–PUSH invites you to their headquarters, 271 Grant Street, for a viewing of “Black and Gold: The Latin King and Queen Nation,” a film that follows the Latin Kings in New York City as they abandon their criminal past for a stronger future. 5:30 PM. Free food and discussion to follow
–Fork-It-Over 2009 will take place at the Butler Mansion, 672 Delaware Avenue, with free food and wine donated by the area’s best restaurants. Live music, silent auction. Benefits the Gloria J. Parks Community Center and Kensington-Bailey Neighborhood Housing Service. Dress to impress. 6 PM. $40.
–Squeaky Wheel cordially invites you to their member’s meeting, clothing swap, and potluck. Bring gently used clothing and a delicious food item to share, vote on new board members, and award prizes. 5-7 PM.
-Talking Leaves, 3158 Main Street, welcomes sculptor Ellen Graf, as she discusses her book The Natural Laws of Good Luck: a Memoir of an Unlikely Marriage, a chronicle of a union between an American artist and a Chinese man. 7 PM.
Friday, October 2nd
-“Frank Lloyd Wright’s Buffalo Venture: from the Larkin Building to
Broadacre City” officially begins at the University at Buffalo’s
Anderson Gallery, One Martha Place (between Main Street and Kenmore
Avenue). Hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday
1 PM – 5 PM. FREE.
–College Street Gallery will hold their 12th anniversary party at their 244 Allen Street location. 8-10 PM. Light snacks, drinks. FREE.
–The Buffalo Museum of Science begins their 58-hour round-the-clock marathon showing of Body Worlds, beginning 9 AM Friday and ending at 7 PM Sunday.
-A Band Named Sue will hit the stage at Nietzsche’s, 241 Allen Street, playing hits by Marty Robbins, Elvis, and of course, Johnny Cash. FREE. 6-10 PM.
-Mohawk Place welcomes The Horse’s Ha for a FREE show. The Horse’s Ha is from Chicago, and have been positively reviewed by the prestigious Onion AV Club. Special guests. 8 PM.
Saturday, October 3rd
-The UB Bulls take on Central Michigan at University at Buffalo stadium, 3:30 PM.
–BECHS will continue their on-going celebration of the Buffalo Bills 50th Season by presenting “Game Changers: The Greatest Plays in Buffalo Bills Football History.” Jeff Miller, who with Marv Levy co-wrote a book of the same name, will moderate. 1 PM.
-Learn about sustainable energy on The Tour of WNY Solar Homes and Green Buildings as part of the WNY Sustainable Energy Association‘s collaboration with the American Solar Energy Society’s National Tour. 10 AM – 4 PM. FREE.
Sunday, October 4th
-Country Music Hall of Fame member and member of the Grand Ol’ Opry Charlie Louvin performs at The Sportsmen’s Tavern. 4 PM. $35.
-Artists United for Human Rights takes to the deck of the USS Little Rock in support of human rights. Live music runs all day non-stop, local vendors sell merchandise, and directors of task forces aimed at preventing child abuse and human trafficking will be on hand. Food, refreshments. FREE. 12 PM – 7 PM.
–Savage Arts, a solo piece written by Susan Eberhardt about the infamous 1930 Buffalo Clothilde Marchand murder, will be given a staged reading at the New Pheonix Theatre.
–Canisius College invites you to the Montante Cultural Center for a performance by students of the Chromatic Club of the Community Music School. Vocal, flute, and piano performances. 3 PM. FREE admission, but donations are accepted and encouraged.
