More and more people are realizing that the DIY (Do-it-yourself) movement is really on to something. Making your own things has a level of gratification that cannot be compared. In tight economic times, making your own gifts can be doubly gratifying. As the art of fine crafts shows (as seen at the current Burchfield Penney Art Center Exhibit: Art in Craft media), craft can be much more than busy-work for kids.
One specific area of craft, the growing book arts community in Buffalo has more resources than ever. Along with the recently announced Just Buffalo “Studio How To” workshops at WNYBAC, The WNY Book Arts Center’s own series of workshops continues (voted best artclasses 2009 by Buffalo Spree). All workshops are held at the downtown Western New York Book Arts Center. Stop by, take a class, make some things!
