A lot of local restaurants are closed on Mondays, but not so many this coming week. As a special thank-you, Restaurant week is being extended to the close of business on Monday, September 28th.
It’s
the week that has eight days and is chock-full of dining bargains. Local
Restaurant Week 2009 ends Monday night, September 28th so there is an extra day
for consumers to take advantage of the best deal in town – dinner at some of
the area’s finest restaurants for only $20.09.
“Since
the bell went off Monday, we’ve been packed,” said Sherri Andrezjewski, who
along with her husband Michael (Local Restaurant Week founder), have experienced
a huge up-tick in business at both of their Sea Bar restaurant locations. “This
Local Restaurant Week just kept building and building and it’s been wonderful
to see how enthusiastic and genuinely passionate people are about supporting
our restaurant community.”
According to organizers, restaurants
aren’t the only businesses to benefit from Local Restaurant Week, as food
distributors have enjoyed increased business with larger drop offs to
their accounts. Sam Guercio of Guercio Brothers, a wholesale distributor to
restaurants, saw his accounts take larger deliveries the past week.
“We
were all surprised last March with the first Local Restaurant Week go round,”
Guercio said. “So we kind of knew what to expect this time. Nonetheless, it’s a
shot in the arm for everybody and great to see the restaurants so busy. There’s
great product available on the market right now and chefs are taking advantage
of it.”
There is
another Local Restaurant Week planned for late March 2010, but for now Monday is
the last day to cram in one more entrée, a dessert, or a glass of New York
state wine. For a complete listing of restaurants please go to www.localrestaurantweek.com.
