We’ve made a lot of lists on Forbes, but this one really blew our minds. On a list of Best Cities for Singles, Buffalo was mentioned at #18, up from #30 last year. What surprised us (pleasantly) was the text that went with it.
While 39 other cities were mentioned for their density of young people, galleries, colleges, bars, etc., the Forbes article named Buffalo Rising! Sure, this may have been savvy marketing on the part of Forbes, knowing that we’d pick up the story and link back to the article, having been thusly flattered, but it may go beyond that. Considering the high volume of traffic on our website and our demographic, which would include a quite a number of young singles, Forbes may recognize that staying tuned into BR and patronizing the events we tout here would provide a lot of opportunities to “hook up” so to speak.
Though Forbes was a little off on their data, calling us a monthly magazine (defunct as of February ’09), this is what they had to say:
No. 18: Buffalo, N.Y.
While Buffalo is still fighting its Rust Belt
reputation, singles like the town for its underground creative community, which
includes the monthly magazine Buffalo Rising. Of course, there’s also a big
sports scene, which includes the Sabres and Bills.
Yep. If you’re single and living in Buffalo, you could fill every day of the week by attending the events we list and write about here, so we agree; Buffalo Rising does enhance the chances that singles will find “their own kind” here in the B’lo. So, thank you and…you’re welcome!
