The City of Buffalo has some of the most spectacular architecture found in the country. A quick drive through downtown and you will be blown away at the abundant amount of historic buildings designed by world-renowned architects, and locals alike. Development downtown has been increasingly prevalent in the past few years – most we’ve seen in decades. Now, as we strive to break the slab holding back a city stuck with a stagnant skyline since the 1970’s, buildings are going up, historic structures are being redeveloped, and the overall civic pride of Buffalo has gone up dramatically.
Our downtown seems to have buildings from nearly every era of architecture since the city’s existence, which adds to the unique diversity of our city’s cityscape and skyline. This is an article to which exemplifies some of Buffalo’s most scenic perspectives of the downtown area, and of our city’s architectural skyline in general. Don’t we all wish that people would stop using bleak pictures of our fair city, especially when showcased on a national level?
Here are just a few of the places you might like to visit to be able to catch a good glimpse of the city:
Rooftop/upper floors of Buffalo General Hospital – catch a glimpse of the “City of Light,” at night, and our city’s beautiful treasures:
City Hall Observation Deck:
Court Street Parking Gargage – Rooftop (there is a good view from all sides of this parking ramp):
Yes, I know, the Erie Basin Marina Observation Tower is very typical, and boring. However, at night, if you get the chance, it’s a completely new view on the city, even if some of those condo towers block the view of the entire skyline. This is one of the few locations you can get the lake in with the city, without going to Canada or renting a boat:
Downtown Buffalo Main Street subway tunnel:
These are just a few locations. Others include:
-Top of HSBC Tower – if you can get up there.
-M&T Parking Ramp
-Holiday Inn Downtown
(and pretty much any rather tall downtown building)
– Buffalo Science Museum
– Medical Campus area
And many others…
If you have some locations in mind that haven’t been mentioned, drop a comment if you’d like.
