The pussy willows will
soon be flying as Dyngus Day, according to tradition, falls on the Monday
before Easter Sunday. This year that date is Monday, April 13th.
Dyngus Day is a post-Lenten day of polka dancing, beer, Polish sausage,
flirting with pussy willows and water that brings thousands to the area for a truly
unique celebration.
Some things to know
before the day arrives: A new Pussy Willow Pass has been created by those at
Dyngus Day Buffalo to help in cutting cost for attendees. With the purchase of
a $10 admission and wristband at participating Dyngus Day Buffalo Official
Festival Sites, participants will receive $2 admissions to any other
participating venue during the day.
Secondly, a shuttle
and cab system has been introduced to eliminate the worry of how to get around and ultimately get home. Throughout
the festivities, Sobieski Vodka/Grand Tour Ridge Road Express Shuttle will be
running to over 18 locations in the Historic Polonia District,
Cheektowaga/Depew and Black Rock areas. Participants are encouraged to park at
any one of the numerous Official Festival sites and ride the shuttle all day.
Sobieski Polish Vodka and Tyskie Polish Beer have also teamed with Liberty Cabs
to offer free rides home at the end of the night if someone is unable to drive.
Festivities will begin on the
with an Easter Monday Mass at
by Father Anzelm Chalupka, Pastor of Corpus Christi Church. Following Mass, a
luncheon will be held in the church’s
pierogi, ham and kapusta, served buffet style by Jacob’s Café from the Historic
Broadway Market. Polish beer will also be available for purchase. Tickets for
the luncheon are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and can be purchased at room
1315 inside City Hall, or by calling 479-2342.
Following lunch
