I was always
one of those kids who was constantly talking in a British accent, thinking that
I sounded just Divine saying, “Cheerio!” and “Pip, pip!” Turns out I wasn’t,
but maybe your child, or someone you know is just oozing with stage energy and
a love for performance.
Youth (
for summer acting classes for those children who love an audience. Professional
actors teach the classes, which concentrate on improvisation, physical theatre,
dance, voice and stage combat. The classes are held during the month of July at
The Allendale Theatre at
three classes offered, which are separated by grade level. For students
entering grades three and four, the class runs from
non-competitive nature, and encourages students to collaborate and solve
problems while they discover how to express themselves through theatre.
For students
entering grades five and six, the Theatre Adventures program runs from
problem-solving teamwork are again stressed as the students turn stories into
dramatic presentations.
Both of the
aforementioned classes share their experiences in an open showcase at the
theatre, have a max class size of 10 students, and a $120 fee.
Finally, the
teen class for those students entering grades 7-10 is taught by Meg Quinn,
artistic director for Acting Essentials
for Teens with
runs from
provided in characterization, improvisation, textual analysis, and acting
techniques. Staff will also add sessions on costuming (how to wear historic
clothes), stage make-up and wigs, stage management, and stage combat. Scripted
scenes will be prepared by the students for a student showcase at the end of
the class session. The max class size for the teen class is 14, and the fee is
$460.
