Safe and convenient bicycling parking is an essential component to encouraging bicycle use in our city. By doing so, we can all realize improved environmental and personal health, economic rewards and an enhanced quality of life.
As The City prepares to install bicycle racks throughout our commercial districts, Blue Bicycle will ensure that rings are placed on all existing parking meter poles to create additional parking for bicycles. To do this, on Thursday, October 23rd from 5:30 – 8pm, all of Buffalo is invited to Blue Bicycle’s “Rusty Chain” Fundraising event which will be held at Campieri’s Gourmet Pizzeria on 888 Main Street. All proceeds from this event will be used for the fabrication and installation of the rings which will be manufactured and installed by Atlas Steel.
As part of the event, Blue Bicycle has partnered with Flying Bison Brewery to launch a specialty brew; the “Rusty Chain”. This new amber ale will help to promote bicycle infrastructure in Buffalo. With over twenty restaurants and bars around the city on board, every time you purchase a Rusty Chain partial proceeds will go towards bicycle racks, signs, lanes, etc. Rusty Chain will quickly become the beer of choice for cyclists and beer aficionados alike.
A silent auction will be held as part of the event that will feature items from Bert’s Bikes, Campus Wheelworks, Rick Cycle Shop, Trek Bicycles and of course some bicycles recycled by Blue Bike. Funky grooves will be provided by DJ Cutler, gourmet pizza by Campieri’s and frosty beer from Flying Bison Brewery. $20 dollars to get in the door – first 100 people will get a membership in Bicycle Benefits. T-shirts screen printed by Scott Swiezy will also be on sale at the event and hopefully in local shops.
The event is sponsored by Green Options Buffalo, Buffalo Rising, Buffalo Microparks, DTR 45 and Flying Bison Brewery.
