After all of the years of people wishing that Bidwell Farmer’s Market would take place year ’round… your wish has been answered. Christa first posted on the news back in December, and it is our hope that people really tune in and support this endeavor. Unlike the already successful outdoor market at Bidwell Parkway, the Winter Market at the Lafayette Church is looking for all the shoppers that it can get to prove that people are willing to support a market… even on a cold, blustery Sunday.
The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) has been promoting the Winter Market, primarily because many of the vendors that set up on Sundays are the same people that support the events at the Central Terminal. A recent email from the CTRC listed the Winter Market line-up:
Artful Table – Artisan breads (BRO photo: David Setzer)
Avenue Boys Smokehouse – Sausages and specialty charcouterie
Blackman Homestead Farm – Fruit butters, apples, cider
Blossom Hill Farm – Naturally raised heritage pork
Carla’s Crumby Creations – Organic dairy-free cookies
Chateau Buffalo – Artisan ciders from local apples
Go Veggies – Veggie burgers and rolls
Hens Honey Bee Farm – Raw organic NYS native varietals of honey
Massachusetts Avenue Project – Chili Starter
Saltamonte’s Salsa – Fresh salsas, jalapeño pickles, and southwestern specialties
Tea Amo – Fresh, high quality loose teas
White Cow Dairy – Farmstead yogurt, custard, and other dairy foods
It is just as important that the same restaurants that support the summer market do the same for the Winter Market. Like any business, the more people who attend and purchase goods, the stronger the market will be next winter. Remember, it took a few years for the Bidwell Market to get going too. By supporting the market year ’round, we are supporting the local farmers who normally would not have an outlet like this to sell directly to their customers. We have seen great success when it comes to the warm weather markets in Buffalo. The markets are opening earlier in the spring season and sticking around later in the fall. Make sure that you mark Sundays on your calendar to stop by the Lafayette Church for your healthy produce alternatives.
*Open on Sundays from Noon – 4 PM. The Elmwood-Bidwell Market re-opens in May.
