Jim Sawyer, owner of Six Dimension Design on Lexington Avenue, is one of the most interesting guys you could ever want to meet in Buffalo. His specialty? He designs and hand makes stained glass geodes that are based on crystal formations, molecules, and atomic structures. One walk into Six Dimension and you can be assured that your mind will open and a far out experience will ensue. Jim’s a very energetic guy and his passion for geometric design transcends into the talks that he gives on the subject all over the country. His forte is the triangular geometry of the atom in nature. The geometric objects that he produces hang from the ceilings of his shop, sit on top of displays, … they’re virtually everywhere. And Jim loves to discuss the art of his science… er… the science of his art… er…
I never thought that I would ever meet someone that could make the idea of chemical properties of atom structures sound cool. Jim runs a totally hip shop that is right out of some underground science fiction novel. You can almost imagine covert meetings taking place in the evening to discuss the inner-workings of some sort of parallel universe. Jim travels from country to country photographing his creations and talking to enthusiasts about the Sixth Dimension. For anyone that would want to come and learn about Jim and his wild shop (he repairs stained glass and sells flowers too), there will be an exhibit December 30th (4pm), with live music starting at 7pm. It’s his fourth year at 241 1/2 Lexington Avenue and if you’re lucky Jim will hand you a flower on your way out of the shop. 716-881-5251
